Did a scratch test both with needle and a pocket knife; hard stone does not scratch. Not sure what to make of this item, not the black synthetic polymer painted furniture with plastic mother of pearl and gold emamel paint that you see everywhere, I got those also. This one is hard chalkboard type of black lacquer. Even the painting on it seems like a gold dust lacquer? Any clue as to origin or age?
