Daoguang-era meat plate |
Posted By: Matt Posted Date: Jul 29, 2011 (03:18 PM) |
Message Attached are photos of a very large (54cm x 27cm) platter made for the Western market with a complex pictorial representation of what I am guessing is Cao Cao's naval build-up before the Battle of Red Cliff (or Chibi) as told in "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms." Would anyone be willing to translate the inscriptions on the two banners, or the poem at the top of the dish? These characters probably hold the "secret" to the narrative being told. It's a very interesting piece of Chinese export ware. |
