Message The tassel is the type installed on 1920s-1930s covered baskets sold in USA, often used as sewing baskets. It could have been added at any time; the baskets were being sold in flea markets, country auctions and 'antiques' shows 1950s-1980s at least, including the tassels. A "WW2 vet" could have acquired the knife at any time or place before his death. It could have been sold as part of a 'carving set' with long fork and possibly a sharpener/hone.
