Question re long watercolor handscroll |
Posted By: rat Posted Date: Jul 07, 2014 (09:59 AM) |
Message Yes, this is a very popular painting in China, and reproductions (some of quite poor quality) are fairly common. You can find a number of the low quality ones on ebay for next to nothing. It is more difficult to find high quality reproductions; one place to check if you happen to visit China are the bookshops in the departure terminals of major airports. This one is not a very close copy, in particular it has a lot of color added and some detail and most of the wash lost, but the original is about 10 inches tall with incredible detail so that's not entirely surprising. The frontispiece on yours is different from the original also. You can find a good quality zoom-able digital photograph of the original scroll here: http://scrolls.uchicago.edu/scroll/spring-festival-along-river Post a Response |
