I am writing in regards to two Circa 1900 Buddhist Mask from the Katmandu, Nepal that I recently obtained. These two masks are extremely interesting-they are carved from a signal piece of wood, with nine skulls (Makahala), and animal carvings on the top. I dont know the exact date that the masks left the country, but I do know that it was no later than the beginning of WWII-the likely time line given to me was the late 1930's/early 40's. They are in excellent condition, with the original paint, they have some of the red wax stamps still on the back, and are approx. 21x 13x 7 inches in size. I have attached a few photos in hope that anyone could possibly shed some further light on these masks. The photos attached are of one masks, the other is similar with less colour. I would like to consider getting an appraisal and possibly sell these masks and would appreciate and further information.
