Photomechanical reproduction of original paintings can be done on 20th century printing presses in the thousands in very little time. They could be sold under license by the artist, or in museum shops for (say) USD $5 to $12 each (they cost much less than a US dollar each to produce) unframed.

They do not have the sort of 'value' that the original artworks had and have, but persons wanting to have prints framed and use to decorate may consider that some preferred ones have some use-value. What that might be would be in the eye of the beholder.

Consider the scam known as "limited edition." A well advertised vendor of porcelain "collector" plates did not tell you that they produced ~only~ 10,000 of a given item at a time.
