These paintings appear to be framed during the early 20th c. and perhaps are a bit older. Painted on silk or some type of fabric, then stretched over a wood panel as can be seen in the photo of the back of the pieces.
Seems to have some qualities of Kalighat school work, but all examples I find are on paper, do not seem to have as much detail to the faces, nor the backgrounds. However, overall color scheme and the use of a curtain design at the top seem to originate from Kalighat style.
There does appear to be some writing (signature?) on one painting. Perhaps this is some blend of Indian folk art, but overall I find the paintings strangely haunting.
Any help on identification would be appreciated. Thanks.
