Erotic terracotta plaque

This terracotta plaque, illustrates a typical theme of Indian art an amorous couple that can be seen as a representation of cosmic sexuality. Terracotta plaques from the same group can be found on the lower part of brick temples throughout Bengal between the 17th and the 19th centuries, related published examples are in the collections of the Asutosh Museum of Indian Art in Calcutta, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
