Subject:Help requested with Japanese mark on pottery
Posted By: Artis Sun, Apr 11, 2010 IP: 97.81.214.245 This is a large stoneware pottery vase about 18". Can anyone help me ID the mark on the bottom? And what is this kind of glaze decoration called? |

Posted By: Bill H Mon, Apr 12, 2010 The two stacks of kanji across at the top of the mark read from the right downward as 'Dai Nippon' (Made in Imperial Japan) and Kyoto (the old royal capital). Beneath them the single stack reads Matsura Sei San (Selection Made by Matsura). |
