Subject:Moriage Satsuma _ Artist Mark & Seal Identification
Posted By: Lisa Thu, Jul 12, 2018 IP: 174.126.100.111

I have just acquired this 14" Moriage piece from a seller in Japan. I'm normally pretty decent with deciphering artists marks & seals but this one has got me stumped. The workmanship on this piece is stunning& absolutely meticulous.

Stamped? seal seems to read 江田勇印, but I'm unsure of the signature. 江山 seems trite, 居山 incorrect.

Thank you ...no is not a stamp but hand drawn seal...truly a puzzle for me.was starting to think it was a fake seal until I notice 'zan' *& a couple other recognizable characters in the seal

The artist's name seems painted, but I don't believe the seal "impression" is painted; it's applied somehow, whether with a rubber stamp or some other way. But I too am stuck on the first character in the name the artist using.

I tried a number of kanji combinations & none of them made sense for a work of this quality...a couple of the characters of the seal made sense but others I am at a loss for...
