Subject:Chinese porcelain panel translation
Posted By: Tom Aspden Sun, Mar 24, 2019 IP: 147.147.208.90

I have this famille rose panel, and I was wondering what the calligraphy and the stamps at the top of it translate to?

Thanks for the information

百子圖 - Picture of Hundred Children
公元丙寅年写於 - Painted in the Year of Fire-Tiger (...1926...) at
珠山客次 - Painters` Quarter of Zhushan (Jingdezhen)
Starting seal,
中 - Zhong
Upper seal,
世 - Shi
Lower seal,
寧 ? - Ning

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thanks Nagy for the translation, but could you tell me what led you to believe that it was 1926 rather than an earlier year like 1866?

Regards

Tom

Meantime, I have found the meaning of the two seals Shi and Ning 世 寧. In full 郎世寧 Lang Shining.
Chinese name of the 18.c. Italian born Jesuit painter Giuseppe Castiglione (Ref. Google).
During the Republican period there was a vogue for imitation of Qing imperial ware. Lot of former craftsmen from imperial kilns were engaged in producing copies. Lang Shinin marking was popular among others.
Otherwise, the style of your plaque resembles very much to the works of the Eight Friends of Zushan (Republican period)
Therefore, 1926 is the correct year.

With regards,
I.Nagy
