Subject:Japanese Cloisonne Vase Help w/Makers Mark
Posted By: finders9 Mon, Sep 23, 2019 IP: 108.56.140.241

I recently purchased this small Japanese cloisonne vase from a local estate. A collector of Asian arts was present as well and he identified it as Japanese and suggested a date of 1920 which, based on the style, seems correct to me. I have attempted to identify the maker's mark on line, without success though I did find an image (without text) of what appears to be the same mark. Would appreciate the assistance of the experts on this forum. Thanks

IMO, this is the mark of Hayashi Hachizaemon (Nagoya, ca. 1850-1908) in use between 1882-1908. So, this vase must be somewhat earlier, late Meiji - early 20th century.

Guy.
