Subject:Help Identifying Mark on Bronze
Posted By: Edward Sheldon Sat, Oct 05, 2019 IP: 2a00:23c5:e7a0:9200:

Hi Everyone,
I wondered if anyone would be able to help identify the mark on a bronze of a boy fishing.
I love the piece, but would be really interested to know when it was made.
An expert on a well known answer site told me that the mark was "unreadable", which I hope is not true!
Many thanks in advance
Ed

'Hidemitsu kansei' (秀光監製 - made under the supervision of Hidemitsu). The fishing rod is missing.

Japanese - late Meiji period, ca. 1900.

Thank you Guy,
Really kind of you to take the trouble to reply; exactly the info I was looking for.
I'm guessing, looking at similar examples, that the fishing rod might have been made fashioned from ivory.
Best

Yes indeed, must have been a fishing rod in ivory.

Guy.
