Subject:Japanese Bisque Cat - Hirada?
Posted By: ramsey rowland Wed, Oct 09, 2019 IP: 108.56.140.241

I purchased this charming white bisque cat some time ago at a local charity shop - did some research on its origin, etc. without success until recently when I came across one of the same style, identified as from Hirada? Subsequently found a few examples, all of slightly different sizes - mine measures about 7.5" tall. Think the photos tell it all - initially did not think it was signed but upon close inspection did find an impressed mark shown in the photo. The photos suggest a somewhat yellowish tone but it is actually snow white. Would welcome comments to include likely age, identification of the mark, and anything else related to history and significance. Having previously counted a few cats among my family members, I was particularly struck by the posture and expression - quite familiar! Thanks

As it appears I am not able to edit just want to note that it is HIRADO rather than Hirada. Sure most would know that but for possible search reasons wanted to add. thanks
