Subject:A Satsuma vase signature
Posted By: Frédéric S. Sun, Mar 24, 2024 IP: 176.130.20.28

Hello
Could you help me identify the signature of this Satsuma vase? I managed, I think, to translate the right column : "Dai Nippon, Satsuma Yaki". Thank you in advance for any information you can give me on this pretty vase decorated with coins.
Best regards,
Frédéric S.

You are right about Dai Nippon and Satsuma Yaki.
In the middle column it reads 五翠堂 = Gosuidö or Gosui Dö, probably the name of a studio or workshop.
The left column reads: Shizuyama 静山 Zo 造 no 之 (= Shizuyama made this).
Shizuyama is a native Japanese surname, the Sino Japanese translation of this name is Seizan, which is a given or artist name.
Unfortunately I found no information about all names.
Regards,
Martin.
