Subject:Unusual Pottery Identification
Posted By: Michael Fri, May 10, 2002 OK. Part of me says it is Japanese studio pottery from the turn of the century. Another says maybe it is Chinese. The mark says Sung Dynasty but I have ruled that out. Any suggestions? Yes, It had been drilled and used as a lamp at one time. |

Posted By: Anthony Lee Mon, May 13, 2002 This is a pastiche, in that no such style exists in art of Imperial dynastic China, however, it is Chinese adn likely from the kilns at Shiwan (or Shekwan) in southern China, around 1920-1930 I would say. An odd little piece, and I have nevery seen anything exactly like it. Thanks for showing us. |
