Subject:Discussion of Statues
Posted By: Stan Wed, Jul 04, 2007 IP: 24.147.211.42

Folks,

Just to show you that Asian art can be found in unexpected places...

I went to visit my mother in the woods of NY where the local decoration is composed of tractors, cows, hay, and barns. In one of the barns was an antique store run by a Korean woman.

Below are the things that caught my eye. Since I am not expert in any of these areas, I didn't buy anything. These item looked like quality goods to me and I wanted your opinion to check my eye, learn, and help other Forum participants.

Below are the following:

1) A pair of ancestor statues (bone overlay) $4800
2) A Thai archer
3) An multi-armed Indian(?) goddess on a dragon

Thanks for you comments.

Cheers,
Stan

Dear Stan,
These are all replicas and have very little artistic value. The ancestor statues are Chinese or Korean. The second two items are modern items that you can find in the stores of Bangkok.
You might like them for decorating your house.

Mehmet,

Thank you for your comments. I guess I better stick with Japanese prints.

For my edification, are there glaring things a beginner like myself should be able to see in the above statues?

Thanks,
Stan
