Subject:Watercolor Identification Assistance
Posted By: J. Weston Wed, Feb 02, 2011 IP: 72.73.90.196

I found these in the attic today and I am curious about their origins, including approximate date of creation and the artists name. I love the way they have a 3-dimensional quality with different layers of card stacked atop each other.

I assume they are inexpensive tourist memorabilia but I'd like to be sure.

The cards are about 3.5" by 5.5". Thanks much for any assistance!

These are copies of two famous prints by Hiroshige. The right one is "The Sea off Satta in Suruga Province (Suruga satta Kaijo)" from the series "36 Views of Mount Fuji (1858)". See the link below for an original print. The left one is "Massaki and the Suijin Grove by the Sumida River" from the series "100 Views of Edo". It is missing one of the cartouches in the upper right. See this link for an original:

The original prints were about 10" X 15".

Stan
