Subject:Little statue question
Posted By: J Mon, Apr 14, 2014 IP: 50.173.214.163 My dad was in the Air Force, and I believe he would go to Korea a lot, and or Japan not sure. I have these 2 statues, there were 3 but my brother took 1 I have the other 2, but they are really nice figures carved I think from ivory, but really I have no idea. On the bottom there is either writing or symbols. Maybe somebody on here can tell me what it says? |

Posted By: rat Tue, Apr 15, 2014 not ivory but plastic or resin. In Japanese the mark reads Kokusai. There was a Japanese netsuke artist working in the second half of the 19th century named Ozaki Kokusai, but this is a modern creation, no relation to that artist's works. I don't know whether a Korean artist with the same name existed. |
