Subject:Identification of bowl/dish
Posted By: Greg Sun, Jun 22, 2014 IP: 75.185.10.73 If someone would be so kind as to provide me any information on the bowl/dish I purchased at a thrift store recently. I almost did not buy it as I thought because it was so thin, it must be plastic. But it does not bend like plastic, so I am guessing it is a very thin porcelain-like material. I am not familiar with Asian pieces and any info is appreciated. The bowl measures 4.7cm in height and 10.4cm across. |

Posted By: Bill H Tue, Jun 24, 2014 You can upload a jpeg image of up to about 99 kb in size but will need Photoshop or other editing software to reduce the image size. If you don't have Photoshop or another image-editing program, another option is to upload your images to a sharing site and put them on the forum as a link, but beware that some photo-sharing sites require passwords to view. |

Posted By: Bill H Wed, Jun 25, 2014 This is a paper-thin Chinese transfer-decorated eggshell porcelain bowl with apocryphal Qianlong mark. Probably dates to the late 20th century. Items like this are sold in gift and novelty shops in China and elsewhere and have decorative value only, although there is a steady market for them because of their unusual nature. Older and hand-painted pieces can command quite high auction prices. See link for one auction result. |
