Subject:Dragon vase - Chinese?
Posted By: GerryG Tue, Feb 17, 2015 IP: 185.51.74.106 Hi, I saw this quirky vase in a antiques shop and bought it for next to nothing more out of curiosity. It seems earthenware with a high iron content biscuit. The glaze is almost waxy in appearance and touch. The base is glazed and seems to age the piece as being fairly modern though that is difficult to determine. The two dragons are ming style I think and quite well done in relief. I can't find anything online that is similar in style or colour. The vendor said it was 19th century Mongolian which I took with a pinch of salt. |

Posted By: GerryG Thu, Feb 19, 2015 Hi Pierre, thought it was modern. Thanks for your comment and I didn't pay anything for it so I'm up a dollar! From my limited research I did think it looks like it's trying to copy something from the Han or Liao dynasties. |
