Subject:Need help identifying Chinese Jade (?) Bowl
Posted By: Humberto Thu, Jun 16, 2016 IP: 84.126.82.137 I need any information you may have about this Chinese bowl. Its dimensions are 20 diam x 10 ht cm (7.9 x 3.9 inches). Thank you. |
Subject:Not jade
Posted By: Super Fri, Jun 17, 2016 The chance of this bowl being made of real jade such as Jadeite or nephrite, IMHO, is close to none. A very modern bowl that was made of soft stone. Sorry. |

Posted By: Humberto Ferreira Mon, Jun 20, 2016 Thank you for your reply. Yes, I did the scratch test with the tip of a fine German steel knife. It did not scratch it. Which means the Mohs hardness must be 6 or above. |
Subject:maybe jade
Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Mon, Jun 20, 2016 You need to do a 2-3 mm scratch, with enough pressure to see a tiny scratch. Then tell us if it is a white or black scratch |

Posted By: Humberto Ferreira Wed, Jun 22, 2016 I first tried the tip of a steel knife, could not scratch even with pressure. Then tried the tip of a hardened steel scissor, made a white scratch. |
Subject:sorry....
Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Thu, Jun 23, 2016 Sorry, test failed,,, it is Serpentine, which is softer than Jade. |
