Posted By: Guy Thu, Oct 13, 2016 The mark reads 林實 (contemporary orthography: 林実). Could be pronounced 'Hayashi Minoru' or 'Rinjitsu'. Found no further references. |

Posted By: Guy Fri, Oct 14, 2016 Could be Chinese after all. How to pronounce 林實 in Chinese? |

Posted By: yurike Wed, Oct 19, 2016 Thank you Bill and Guy for your replies. Seems still no consensus. The marking reminded me of a Kutani Kaku mark but I havent found that yet. The search continues. Does a late 19th dating seem acceptable? |

Posted By: Bill H Thu, Oct 20, 2016 While I believe the jury probably remains out on whether this mark is Japanese or Chinese, I scanned through the more than 3400 marks in "The New & Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics" (2013 2nd Edition) by Gerald Davison and could find no trace of it in either the standard or seal script section. |
