Early Bakelite was opaque and dark colored. It is a phenolic resin.
In the late 1920s the Catalin corporation acquired the patent, and produced marbled phenolic resin in a variety of colors up until the 1960s. Most "Bakelite" fashion jewelry is Catalin.
Two distinguishing characteristics of this type of plastic: 1) it tends to develop a yellow oxidized patina with age; 2) when placed under hot water, it presents the odor of formaldehyde. The latter characteristic alone would make it unsuitable for an actual teapot - phenolic kitchen accessories from the 1930s stink pretty badly when they're washed.
Run your teapot under very hot water for about a minute. If it doesn't smell like formaldehyde, you likely have a modern polyester, polyurethane, or epoxy casting resin.
