Subject:Chinese Paintings?
Posted By: Nick Manning Wed, Aug 23, 2017 IP: 2a02:c7f:a42d:8b00:9

Hello,

I wonder if you can help, I've been hitting a brick wall in trying to identify there paintings and hoping that you people might be able to shed some light on it?

My interpretation is that they are Chinese (not 100% sure), I think the man in them is either dead or carrying a body? The image with the bulding in the sky seems to have the Chinese for Heaven above the door? I am probably totally wrong.

Does anyone know what these images say, depict and where they might have been displayed. I assume they are telling a story.

Any information any one can give would be amazing.

I have added some images below but it only allows me to upload 3 so here are some links to the images also;

Nick

Hi,here is the translation,
1st picture,
Script on the gate reads from left,
色即是空 Eveverything on this world has not constant entity.the entity that exists arises from conditional causation.
(This is a citation from the Heart Sutra,
Mahayana Buddhist scripture)
罪重如山 Sin is heavy as mountain
2nd picture,
負罪聴道 Turn back on sin and listen to the
way (truth)
Inscription on yellow background,
指明天路 The way pointed to celestial road
3rd picture,
罪人受害因魔誘詐 Sinners suffer because of the fradulent temptations of devil
The inscriptions speak for themselves. They
might have been painted by Buddhist monks for
educational purposes.
With best regards,
