Subject:Famille rose plate mark
Posted By: Adriano Fri, Aug 25, 2017 IP: 95.250.220.253

I need help in identifying the mark of this plate.
I found it should be a mark of Wah Lee Company operating in Hong Kong from 1953 to 1968.
Someone expert could also evaluated the period from the style of painting.
Thank you in advance.

The website gotheborg.com shows other examples of dishes with the same faux mark of "Made during the Qianlong Reign" and attribution to the Wa Lee (Wah Lee) porcelain ornamentation factory in Hong Kong with 1960 date. Wa Lee was one of several firms in Hong Kong and Macao engaged in transfer decoration of porcelains produced at Jingdezhen during that period.

Faux reign marks on Chinese porcelain became quite popular during the late 19th century, particularly so during the Guangxu Reign (1875-1908). Circa the 3rd quarter of the 20th century, marks such as on your dish and the attribution to a Hong Kong maker also helped purchasers avoid restrictions imposed by a group of countries in the West known collectively as the "Coordinating Committee" (CoCom), which body tried to use punitive tariffs to limit so-called "Free-World" trade with communist nations.

Best regards,

Bill H.
