Subject:Origin of earthenware dish?
Posted By: Jannik Tue, Dec 05, 2017 IP: 87.73.40.69 I might be on the entirely wrong forum with this earthenware dish (D:21cm ~ 8,27") which I have had for a few years but never been able to establish its origin. |

Posted By: Endre Tue, Dec 05, 2017 My first thought when seeing the colors and the mark is India. Jaipur has similar colors, as well as Rajasthani. I couldn’t find an exact match or anything of age, but some patterns are similar. Im not an expert of course, but maybe another option to search. Perhaps another person will be able to assist more. I’m intrigued to learn about this one too |

Posted By: Endre Thu, Dec 07, 2017 Now I think it could be middle eastern. I thought that your mark looked a lot like the om symbol, as opposed to Arabic. I’m not a linguist, but it does look backwards or upside down or reversed compared to the Arabic I have seen. There is a really nice site called ceramopolis that features Turkish and ottoman antiquities, and they may be willing to assist if you ask, maybe. Your colors look pretty bright, but it does resemble the Kutahya pieces from the 18th century, that you can see on ceramopolis. Hope this is a step towards the right direction |
