Subject:Mark and date of Chinese (?) cup
Posted By: Martin Michels Mon, Mar 19, 2018 IP: 84.26.216.123

I would like some advise about this Chinese cup.
At least, I think it's Chinese. However, I was not able to deciper this mark.
Have someone any idea what is written and how old this cup might be? What style it is?
Thanks in advance,
Martin.

Martin,

The upside down image of the red stamp mark reads “Guangxu Nian Zhi,” made during the Guangxu reign. Your cup is circa 1900.

You have a well-painted Chinese cup in the "Three Abundances" motif with upside-down view of a stamped-on Guangxu mark that I believe probably is of that 1875-1908 reign period. The "Three Abundances" consist of Peaches (Abundant long life), Pomegranates (Abundant progeny) and Buddha-hand citron (Abundant good fortune and happiness).

I have a Daoguang-period bowl in this pattern with a Shendetang (Hall for the Cultivation of Virtue) mark, which I'll try to share through the image link.

Best regards,

Bill H.
