Subject:Chinese (likely) carved cinnabar over brass with blue enamel..censer?

Just wondering about this, I know they have made things like this for ages and I dont know personally how to differentiate the old from the new. The only thing I noticed in my research is that the new ones almost always have a bright blue enamel while thins one is a dark lapis color. Any help would be appreciated :)

Anyone? I understand dating such a piece may be difficult especially from a picture but is there anything one can ascertain from the enamel color or the style of carving?

During the early fourth quarter of the 20th century, when I was living in Hong Kong, I recall seeing displays at the China Arts & Crafts Store containing lots of brand new red cinnabar-style molded lacquer on brass vases, boxes and other shapes with the same blue enamel on the interiors and bases. Now some 40 years later, I'm seeing the same stuff at estate liquidations, tagged as antiques. Makes me feel much older than warranted. :(

Now, you say "molded cinnabar style"?
This is piece is indeed a layered lacquer and carved object, definitely not molded. Also, looking at it through my 10x's loupe I do not see any signs of power tool use. Is any of this helpful in determining age or value?

And dont worry Bill, I have seen things from my childhood (late 80's and 90's) that are now "vintage".. its a bit disparaging but youth is on the inside! :)
