Subject:copy (?) of zhou jade
Posted By: josh stout Thu, May 24, 2018 IP: 173.54.209.189 This is a Zhou dynasty style twisted jade. The flaws in the jade can be scratched but the rest of the material is hard, and the density is 3.12 with an analytical balance and graduated cylinder. I bought it at an estate sale for $30 where larger jades were going for $1000. I think it is likely a copy, but perhaps hand done. The photos do not show tool marks well, but under a hand lens, parallel grooves can be seen. They look like they were done with a drill, but not as close together as with a power drill. They might be from a non-powered drill. I have tried to take pictures from a variety of angles and lighting conditions. Please let me know if additional photos would be useful, and what the best strategy would be. I can't tell if the stain is artificial or real, but it looks like it was part of the rind of the stone rather than something that happened after the stone was carved. |

Posted By: roberte Thu, Feb 28, 2019 The sculpture and especially the granulosité of polishing that reflects the bright and velvety light at once seems to me correct the sculpture is very sharp, in the sense of precise I think it could actually be an antique jade as to date it exactly I'm not a specialist, but your room looks beautiful |
