Subject:Yellow cup and dish
Posted By: Tony Tue, Mar 31, 2020 IP: 98.152.172.26

Dear friends,
These are a couple of yellow ceramic pieces :) The bowl is yellow inside, as well, with a green "phoenix?" inside a double circles.
They are my first yellow ones ...Maybe of modern period? :)
I would really appreciate your time and input!
Best,
Tony :)

The mark on the base of the yellow cup purports to have been "Made during the Kangxi reign of the Great Qing Dynasty" but obviously is applied by transfer, which has a spotty area on the double ring where it either wasn't applied properly or evaporated during firing. Transfers weren't used in China until the early 20th century, and transfers of this style have been in use from the third quarter of the 20th century until the present.

The yellow floral plate also is transfer ware, as can be seen by repetitive features in the flower blooms and scrolling acanthus leaves. In this instance, the red mark of "Made during the Qianlong Reign" is a style that was seen on wares for ornamentation shops in Hong Kong in the 1960s-70's.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Dear Bill H.,
Thank you so very much for your thorough explanation of the details/ evidences that help to reach conclusion as for the period in which these pieces were made. I have learned from your comment about transfer printing, and it was interesting to watch online how this process was carried out!
Thanks so much again Bill H. for your kind help, time and knowledge!!!
Best,
Tony
