Just like to know who the artist is, and maybe the title?
Thanks

Artist is Toyokuni III (a.k.a. Kunisada), dates to 1850s. No title, but the two actors are Ichikawa Ichizo on the right and Nakamura Shikan on the left.

the print is the right sheet of a kabuki triptych. Signed "Toyokuni ga" (= Kunisada I). Shown are Nakamura Tsuruzo I and Ichikawa Ichizo III (from left) as Sato nyudo Saigyo and kaja Yoshitaka in the play'Aioi Genji takasago no matsu', performed at the Morita theatre, date 2/1861, publisher Yamamotoya Heikichi, carver seal: hori Chō.

Does anyone know about the content of this play "Aioi Genji takasago no matsu"? I have a triptych of Kunisada I/Toyokuni III prints that depict the same performance, and have seen others online, but haven't found a synopsis of the play. From the image in our prints, something disturbing is going on! There's a woman tied to a tree, forced to watch another woman seduce a man with her koto playing.

Have you looked at the Kabuki site? See link below.

Thanks for rec! Haven't found it on that site, unless it goes by a slightly different name - closest was "Keisei Takasago no Matsu", performed Ôsaka 1807/01; only play listed for that same performance date, 1861/02, is a play about mochi makers.
