Cobalt blue Satsuma,Gosu refers to earlier stuff I believe. The mark looks very much like Kusube Yaichi(1897-1984)who was a well known potter of the early 20th century,Kyoto based, that's if I'm reading the mark correctly,Keith.

These are Satsuma, but they aren't "gosu" type Satsuma. These types of Satsuma were massed produced. The applied moriage decoration makes these quite common and not highly valuable. You should take a look on Ebay and see many of these types available.

The vases were made for export or souvenir for foreign visitors to Japan in the early 20th century, also known as Kyo-satsuma,the porcelain ware made by Kyoto kilns. The mark on the bottom reads, Kusube. Kusube Yaichi ( 1897 - 1987 ) is a known Kyoya-ki artist/kiln but the vase like this one was his or his family's studio factory line of products commissioned by the hotels or the merchants.
