Subject:Antique Blue and White Porcelain
Posted By: Sarah Mon, Jul 22, 2013 IP: 74.69.91.47 Would love some help deciphering the marks on this plate. I have been led to believe that it is 18th century Chinese. Plate measures about 10 1/4". |

Posted By: GerryG Wed, Jul 24, 2013 Hi Sarah, From the little knowledge I have and from what I can deduct from the pictures you have attached, I would say the seal mark looks like a stamp and hasn't been hand drawn. Also the size of the seal mark is incorrect for the size of the plate, it's too small and would most likely be written in the centre of the plate. It also looks like the plate has been decorated, drilled for wire holes then glazed and fired which would make me think the piece is a modern decorative copy of a traditional Japanese design of a hoho bird in foliage. Let's see what others more knowledgeable than myself might speculate. |
