Posted By: Jim Thu, Oct 10, 2013 IP: 198.228.228.33

This is a print by UTAGAWA KUNITOMI active about 1804–1844;TOMINOBU after 1820. But we have been unable to identify the subject or whether it is part of a series.

Seems to be part of a series of some prints, depicting actors during an interlude of a imaginary kabuki performance.

The title of your print is 'Mitate kyôgen' (Imaginary comical interlude). There is another similar print on view at the db of the Art Research Center of Ritsumeikan University.
The print there is titled 'Mitate michiyuki' (Imaginary dance interlude). See link below.

Both print were published early 1820s by Ezakiya Tatsuzô (firm name Sengyokudô) who commissioned on a regular base actor prints (yakusha-e) and beauty prints (bijin-e or bijinga) from Utagawa Kunitomi/Tominobu.
Signed 'Kasentei Tominobu ga'.

If you post an image of the actor names at the left, I'll could identify them further.

Guy.
