Subject:Stampeding Horse Carving

A really great horse sculpture made of some kind of stone and weighing in at a couple of pounds. Measuring 10" x7 " it's rather thin suggesting it may have started out as a 2" thick slab of the material.It's damaged but it still looks beautiful. There is one horse broken off at the very top which isn't really that obvious until you turn it around. You can see the remains of a tail on the last horse's flank. A bit of rear leg is also missing on the bottom horse. Not sure what it's made out of. I know for sure it isn't a composite or resin. It's heavy for it's size and isn't easily scratched.It has a variety of colors and veining in it. Bits of red, gold, and white but mostly a gray green color. It appears to be somewhat transparent. Where it's broken it does look like it's crystalline in structure. Thank you for any help or expertise.-Mike-

Hi Mike, I don't know for sure what kind of stone other than something relatively soft. These sculptures have been made since the 1980s and are in Chinese taste and meant as decorative objects rather than fine art.

.......and isn't easily scratched === which points out that is is most likely Serpentine.

Thank you rat and Ernest for the info. I didn't think that it was very old just curious as to where it came from and the material the was used.I'll post some larger pictures.
