Subject:Toyokuni and Hiroshige Ukiyo-e Triptych
Posted By: Dennis W Sat, Mar 22, 2014 IP: 72.49.4.150

I recently purchased this set of prints at an estate sale. Can anyone give me information or value of these printd? I got them for $350.00 with matting and frame. The seem to be very old and have bleed though to back of print. I found one site listing it but it was a museum site. I believe the title is Genji Sumanoura (Prince Genji at Suma Beach)

The artists are Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) signing as Toyokuni. The print looks like it dates from the late 1840s. The date/censor seal is too small to read.

This print has been displayed and is pretty badly faded which detracts from its value for collectors. $350 isn't extremely out of line. As a collector, I would pass due to the aforementioned condition problems.

Cheers,
Stan

I messed up a little. I did mean to concur that the second artist is Hiroshige I.

Cheers,
Stan
