Subject:Pair of oriental style vases... I think?
Posted By: Christopher Walter Sat, Mar 29, 2014 IP: 81.152.184.25

Hi guys,

I was helping clear out my deceased uncles garage the other day and unearthed some old looking vases. I am absolutely 100% not an antiques expert, in fact I know absolutely nothing about this stuff, what I will say is the workmanship is... well relatively rough and what I would call amateurish...

I have a pair of vases which seem to have some metal work towards the top of them. I have attached a photograph of a few bits which I am guessing may help some of the experts here help to identify what these are (I suspect cheap knock offs)...

I do know my uncles great uncle spent time in the East (my uncle was 59 when he passed so his great uncle could be... well roughly 150 yr ago... not sure)

Apologies for these awful photos by the way, I have had to use a webcam for the timing being, if interested in helping identify these and need a good shot of a specific part of the object let me know and I will endeavor to get some better photographs.

Any advice or identification would be excellent and very much appreciated!

Cheers

Christopher Walter

Hi Christopher

These vases are Chinese and made around 1900 up to the 1940's. They have a typical "crackle" glaze with typical brown glazing around the neck and applied "handles". They also feature "warrior" scenes which is also typical. If you turn them over you will probably see a brown mark on the base with Chinese inscriptions. They are very common and not particularly valuable, but better as a pair. I assume they do not have damage.

Cheers

Jim

One of them appears to have been repaired abit around the top...

I think I will try and sell them if possible as I don;t think there particularly attractive...

Thanks for your helpful response!
