It is not Sukhothai pottery. That is different in color and texture. On your fotos i see small orange lines, then i think Ru- ware. But the large fragments, in black .you can usually see on Guan ware .And also the color i think Guan. Look more in that direction .Nice Ban chiang in the background. regards wil

Wil, thank for the comments. I agree with the not Sukhothai as you stated. But the potting is heavier than most Ge or Guan ware I have seen or handled. As such I am having trouble dating the piece. The Ban Chang is about 10" tall with globular body and short fluted top. Probably old but with all the fakes who really knows anymore. The price was right so now it is in my collection.

I agree it seems like a ge-type glaze but it looks more heavily potted than Chinese ge ware would be, no?

Yes, it is more heavily potted than most Ge type ware I have seen or handled in the past. The color is not the same as Sukhothai (or other Thai pottery) which I have run across. There is no pooling of color on the interior which is common with Thai celadon pieces and the glaze is shiny like most Chinese pieces.

I found this in a book of J.C Shaw the name of this book is Northern tai ceramics. The celadons of Pa Dong and Payoom add a new dimension to Thai ceramics. These are true celadons in the Sung tradition, totally different from any other Thai wares. The glaze is thick and oily with a mesh of widely- spaced crackle, and colours from creamy white, through golden honey to deep olive- green.the glaze usully falls evenly and smoothly to the bottem of the foot-rim. regards wil

Wil, Thank you so very much. I have checked out a WEB Site showing some of the Shaw collection, and will do some further research on it. Your help has been invaluable to me. Best wishes sir.
