Subject:Shoushan bronze clarification (Link)
Posted By: Jeff Thu, Apr 17, 2014 IP: 66.169.109.183

It is my understanding shoushan is stone or mineral mined at Shoushan in Fujian province in East China and that ‘bronze’ in reference to the stone refers to color.
An eBay auction closed on the sixth which offered ‘Qing Dynasty Chinese Bronze Shoushan Seal Stamp Chop Antique Set of Three’. The color was listed as bronze and the material as bronze, The pictures from the auction appeared on the link about four days ago. The author says: ‘They were reworked/refinrd after casting to make them more detailed.” I can find no related shoushan bronze on the internet.
After detailed examination of enlargements I think these can be nothing but stone, One of the seals is a Buddha or monk. I remember reading, on this Forum I think, that such a figure would be very inapproiate in Qing dynasty. Am I not correct? I would appreciate more thoughts on this matter. Thank You.
