I bought this piece 20 years ago whilst on holiday in Indonesia.
Can anyone tell me anything about the artist????

There are many talented artists in Ubud, Bali, but most have never become established in the Indonesian art circles. They work in a "stable" of artists and their paintings are usually distributed to the many art dealers in the area. Even if you visit Ubud,the shops may or may not help locate the artist or provide any information abouy him. I have several such paintings in my homes in Bekasi and Tomohon, Indonesia, but even when I bought them in Ubud I was never able to meet the artists.

Enjoy them for their beauty and the artist's skills.

Thank you Roger for taking the time to bring me up to speed with the inner workings of life as an artist in Ubud.....Sounds a bit sad really; especially considering the amount of talent demonstrated in some of these works. Nevertheless I shall take your advice and enjoy them, as you do, for their intrinsic beauty.

This painting, and your other two paintings (of gatherers in forests etc) are from Ubud village, or Ubud-style.

There are plenty of Ubud paintings online for comparisons. Good luck.

This one is suppose to be work of Dra (Doctorates) I Gusti Ayu (She is a princes) of Raka. But like Roger said, they made it in Java because labor is lot cheaper and they have no work. All Balinese crafts are from Java including silver. Balinese are traders. But 20 years ago, may be still made by Balinese, who knows.

Yes, indeed this is done by a woman artist. Not many women artists make it in Bali, but there is a gallery that specializes in Balinese women's art.
