Subject:Early Imperial Chinese Vase HELP PLEASE!
Posted By: Dustin Sun, Jun 22, 2014 IP: 96.229.208.179

We recently purchased a high end collectors estate that had passed away that was a high end collector of Chinese items.
If you could date and authenticate the piece I would appreciate it!

Thanks for your time

Hi Dustin,

I hope you didn't paid an imperial price because it isn't imperial. Your "chenghua nian zhi" marked vase with "double happiness" characters dates from the second half of the 19th. century (probably Tongzhi period). The red seal (jianding) means it was once approved for export and means (under the older rules) it can't be older than Jiaqing period.

Regards,

Arjan

First warning - the reign mark of the Ming dynasty ChengHua 成化emperor. Very often used on later products. No Da Ming 大明 on the mark.

Second Warning - the Chinese red wax seal. This indicates that the Chinese government has seen the vase and have determined that it is of recent manufacture and thus available for export.

Not Imperial.
