Subject:Jade and or Hardstone Archers Rings
Posted By: JJ Sun, Jun 22, 2014 IP: 197.87.246.94

Hello Forum

I hope I can get some constructive input on these rings. Given size limitations of images it is difficult to give crisp shots but I hope the images will do. I have a bunch of Archers Rings and although some look outright stained and new these look better. The green Jade? one feels amazing and has a waxy texture, which does not wash off. It has small chips yet they are worn smooth and the cracks and chips are nicely discoloured. The grey ring Jade or Agate? is naively carved but it too has small dark chips around the edges. There is a white one with two dragons on it, the colour on the edges and interior is also good, it is not stained as the darker patina does not penetrate the cracks and dings too deep. The last one is carved with raised dots etc - it also does not appear stained and is similar to the white in appearance although the stone is a lot smoother. The plain green ring and the grey one seems more worn to the one side of each top edge. The green ring also has a slightly concave carved edge. I did scratch them all with needles, scissors and a nail file. Metal leave a black line which can be wiped off but it does not leave a permanent mark on the surface. I would love to have an idea of material and age.
Thanks

Dear Zheng Ding,
Thank you - I don't think I want to sell them, just want thoughts on them. The green one looks very old but I am not too sure about the rest of them.

The ring at 5 o'clock in the #1 picture, the same
in #2 at 5 o'clock, and in #3 at 1 o'clock have been tampered with, dipped to make them look old, the are definitely not old. In fact, they all look like they have been recently created.

Late 19thC and later in an archaic style... Couple look ok as Late 19th...Probably not a bad buy as good jade archers rings can cost $$$
