Subject:Hi does anyone know about my turtle inkwell please?
Posted By: Chris Thu, Jun 26, 2014 IP: 82.22.0.42

Hi, this was posted on the China/ Japan section, but I have been told by a knowledgeable member to look at Asian countries, so I am reposting this here instead :D I have an oriental looking brass turtle inkwell and was hoping that someone may recognize it or know something about it please? I know it's very old and probably from the 1800's, but I don't have any idea where it originates from. Each of the feet of the turtle (3 of the 4 feet) have 1 or 2 or 3 impressed to each which isn't oriental although it could be aimed at the European or British market when initially made? The glass insert looks like an ink well, but I have tried internet research and found nothing, though spittoons keep showing. Does anyone know anything about my turtle (?) inkwell please? Many thanks Chris :)
