Subject:OLD CHINESE JADE CENSOR?
Posted By: dmorris Fri, Jul 04, 2014 IP: 66.49.191.150

I believe this piece to be an old hand carved Chinese censor of jade measuring 6" across and weighing 360 grams with foo dogs or dragons on each handle. The 2 half orbs appear to be glued together with something like Bondo body filler as it has dried quite hard: Is this is a crappy modern repair on an old item or is this censor a newer item made to look old? There are no markings to indicate who made it. I am wondering if someone can date it?
I would appreciate any and all feedback.
Many thanks in advance, Morris

sorry, sorry...no Jade, and on top of that, this item is very modern, made from a soft stone.

Thank you and Ernest for the feedback, I appreciate it. One thing, it is actually quite hard. Scratched it with a steel knife and it didn't dig in or leave a mark on the stone.

If it did not leave a mark, white or black, then not enough pressure was applied!

Thank you a bunch. I have asked the owner to follow up on this. He says he scratched it really hard with a steel knife and got a white mark.
Meanwhile, I really appreciate your time and knowledge Ernest.
Thank you.
