Subject:Qianlong Mark Molded Porcelain Snuff Bottle
Posted By: Juli Sun, Jul 27, 2014 IP: 71.165.117.246

Hi, I would really like some opinions on this snuff bottle from you guys. I'm seeing gorgeous details and fine intricate painting. Much better than ones listed on eBay for upwards of $7,500 that are called "mark and period". What are your opinions on this bottle? Do you think it is of the period? It is missing its cork and spoon and has two small chips at the neck. How much does this hurt it do you think? Can you also tell me what the stopper button that I do have there is made of? Do you think it is original to the snuff bottle? LOL, sorry lots of questions. I love this and think it is wonderful and am hoping for some agreement. But, don't let that stop you from being honest! I know I have much to learn in Asian Art.

Thank you!

Juli

P.S. I could really still use some more help with the numbered pieces I posted on the 15th of this month. I hope someone has time to have a look!

Sorry, this is pretty low grade 20th century work. Most of the other pieces you posted look new or quite recent to me. Spend some time looking at auction catalogs and reading; there's a lot of good material available.

I disagree on the quality. It looks pretty slapdash to me. Are there 18 people/lohans on the bottle? See link below.

Cheers,
Stan

Thank you so much for your opinions and help! There are 14 Luohans on this one. I think what swayed me to think this one was "special" was because of the extra details, the wave, the tools, structures, and shoreline images included in all the actions of the Luohans. Plus the wavy detail at the foot looks painted with precision and no more than two hairs on the paintbrush could have been used. LOL. Anyway, the information on the link was very interesting. I will continue to look, research, and hopefully learn more as I go.

Juli
