Subject:Was thi a

I was bidding on this bowl thinking it could be yongzheng period, but since I wasn't certain I didn't want to risk more money than I can afford to lose and was soon outbid.

If anyone with true knowledge would like to comment, it would be very velcome.

The enamels look too much like republic enamels...They often put 18th century reign marks on....I reckon republic

Hi Corey, You were lucky you didn't buy it as it is modern.
Did you not check her feedback or the bids?. Bidders names are kept secret and obvious shill bidding all point to one thing; AVOID.
Cheers
Tony.

Thank you for your comments. I would have been happy with an antique bowl with apocryphical mark, or for that sake early republique quality porcelain for a few hundred dollars, but if it is modern, then it's certainly fraudulant.

Wonder what went wrong with the headline btw. Must have been dizzy when I posted it.

Anyway - a related bowl with Jiaqing mark and of the period can be seen at Ben Janssens website in the sold stock section. And in the description of that one is a reference to a jar with a similar kind of decoration dated to the Yongzheng period in the palace museum.

This was the reason why I found the ebay bowl particulary interesting.

If I might be allowed to wax metaphorical, the bowl in the Janssen archive is like delicate perfume behind a beautiful woman's ear, while the eBay copy is like her slapping the devil out of you for getting close enough to notice it in the first place.

A new link to this old thread. I kind of regret I didn't go higher with the ebay bowl.

This fake intrigues me, because it has a feature I saw on another recently posted fake - namely, that the double-ring and footmark have been transfer printed on, and then the mark has been cunningly overpainted so it looks handwritten.

I am also intrigued why this version has thin black lines while the original has not. I suspect this is also covering up some sort of transfer printed guide-lines - to make it easier to copy the original design without the need for the original painter's skill.
