Subject:double fish chinese porcelain vases
Posted By: greg sutherland Mon, Aug 25, 2014 IP: 97.93.95.201

I am going through some of my grandmothers collection of asian figures and I have a match pair of double fish vases. They had a very old price tag on the bottom of one of $550 but I'm dubious regarding quality.
Should I keep them on the mantle or use them to hold paper clips.

This colour mix is know as Sancai, however post Tang dynasty (Ming and 18th century examples) are generally refered to as Su-sancai (ie. "Recent sancai") you often see it in auctions erroneously called "famille verte"....
The sancai colours are some times called egg and spinach/cress as they are white, yellow and green...Later sancai also has aubergine (egg-plant) purple as one of its colours....It is very apparent from yours that it is a modern creation in this ancient pallette though-The stamped reign mark is evidence to this effect
