Subject:Identifying Buddha statue
Posted By: Santiago Ortiz Fri, May 30, 2014 IP: 71.190.11.218

I was gifted this statue by a neighbor two days before his death. He was unable to tell me anything about it and would appreciate any guidance in identifying it. It is 19 inches tall and weighs 22 pounds. Thank you

Your statue is really beautiful.I am not an expert but I have been interested in buddha statues for several years. And I just can't say where yours comes from.I need to look at it longer and if I got an idea I'll tell you. What is certain is that it is from the 18th century or earlier.Keep preciously this heritage from your neighbour...

If I had to to give you an answer-which is very difficult-I'd say your beautiful bouddha is Indian. R.D.

I think that stylistically, it looks like an early Shan piece, from Burma.
