This is a Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada. It dates from the late 1840s. I will get a better date when I get home to my references. It is in tough condition.

Cheers,
Stan

Close. Mid 1840s. From the censor seal, it dates from 1843-46.

Cheers,
Stan

This one's Japanese and not in good condition, by one of the Toyokunis, the other print is Chinese. I suspect that if you repost as a Japanese print you will get identification from one of the Japan experts here.

A couple of minor notes:

1) Kunisada didn't start signing as Toyokuni until 1844 - which narrows the date range.

2) This print is likely the middle panel of a triptych.

Cheers,
Stan

The signature reads 'Kunisada aratame nidai Toyokuni ga' (Kunisada changing his name to the second Toyokuni). This signature was in use by Toyokuni III (aka Utagawa Kunisada I)between 1844-45, whereby he ignored the fact that Toyoshige (aka Toyokuni II)has used the name Toyokuni for more than ten years and he was the third of this name in reality.
